Parkinson's support group at Oasis - working together

The Parkinson’s Program at Oasis Rehabilitation and Nursing is designed to help patients with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and other movement related disorders get a more personalized and exclusive treatment plan.

Parkinson’s Disease Rehab Program:

  • LSVT BIG (Parkinson’s treatment) certified therapists
  • LSVT LOUD (Parkinson’s treatment) certified therapists
  • Physical therapy and Occupational therapy
  • Speech and Swallow therapy
  • Onsite FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) swallow testing
  • Individual and group therapy sessions
  • Parkinson’s Education
  • State of the art equipment and gym including Parkinson’s specific equipment
  • Rocksteady Boxing Certified therapist

Interdisciplinary Care and Individualized Program:

  • Board Certified Neurologist onsite
  • Board Certified Physiatrist onsite
  • Psychological services
  • 24-hour nursing care and Medication management
  • Specially trained Certified Nursing Assistants
  • therapeutic Recreation and Music therapy
  • Individualized diet plans and nutrition counseling
  • Discharge planning for community reintegration
  • Communication and updates with your Community Neurologist/Physician
  • Caregiver and family training
  • Support group held by clinicians trained in specific Parkinson’s Disease treatment interventions
  • Learn compensatory strategies to overcome some of the physical symptoms as it relates to Parkinson’s Disease
  • Learn about new research as it relates to Parkinson’s Disease
  • Socialize and conversate with others a ected by Parkinson’s Disease who share some of the same daily challenges

Shari Gessner graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of Buffalo in 2006. Throughout the last 15 years of clinical experience, she has been focused on treating those within the geriatric population, specifically those with Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders. Shari is LSVT BIG certifi ed, as well as completed her training as a Rocksteady Boxing coach. She has been with FOX Rehabilitation for 4 years, fi rst as a treating clinician, Regional Quality Assurance Liaison and now as the Regional Director for the south shore of Long Island. She has helped develop many programs for both patients and caregivers, and is passionate about restoring function and bettering the lives of those that the disease has affected. Most recently, she has helped develop an inpatient Parkinson’s program at Oasis Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Support Group

Please join us for this no cost opportunity to learn strategies for managing symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and caring for a loved one with Parkinson’s Disease and other helpful resources. The 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4:30pm in person at Oasis Rehabilitation and Nursing.
